Greetings everyone! Its been awhile so please excuse the length.I hope everyone is having a fantastic 2009. I wanted to take this time to let everyone know about a couple of events and happenings taking place featuring both myself and Jill’s work. So mark your calendars!!!
- SUPERSTITION: new works by Jill Lanza and Gabe Lanza (postcard attached)
Chicago IL- Logsdon 1909 Gallery will be hosting Superstition–a solo exhibition of fictional environments with paintings, works on paper, sculpture, and installation by local Chicago artists Jill Lanza and Gabe Lanza on March 13, 2009 from 6-10pm.
Jill Lanza and Gabe Lanza create their imagery as they work through separate mediums. Combining Jill’s printmaking and textiles and Gabe’s paintings and sculptures; they address the playfulness, fragility, and constant cycle of one's environment. Superstition with open on March 13, 2009 with a range of large-scale installations to single works. The artists will be present at the opening reception.
Gathering colors and textures found in our everyday encounters, Jill’s work is built through the creation and destruction of photographs and drawings. Integrating textiles and printmaking, she is examining the textures and topography that surround us. Viewers are left to discover and experience a new, abstracted place constructed by the paths that she explores. Whether in the confines of a book, a frame, or an installation space, she is able to review the notion of one’s relation to place.
Combining features of cartoon and folk art, Gabe’s constructions are a composition of extractions and rearrangements from his drawings and sketches that explore a self-contained reality. He brings to it a distinctive liking for tightly stitched paintings, amiable art patterns and crystalline, hard-edged shapes as well as affection for found materials, tin toys and cartooning. Gabe works both big and small and in two and three dimensions, depicting emotional relations between characters with a touching, comedic sense.
